Nayara Fonseca

Nayara is a Research Manager at MATS London. She is excited to work with fellows in developing ambitious research in AI alignment and security and helping that work achieve broader impact. Her interests combine theoretical and empirical approaches to AI, from modelling new phenomena in learning to exploring debate-based AI systems for scientific reasoning. She holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics and has worked at the intersection of Particle Physics and Cosmology, building models to explain phenomena from small to large scales in the universe. She has an international and interdisciplinary background, with experience in the UK, US, Germany, Italy, and Brazil, and has held positions in both academia and industry, including at IBM Research, MIT, Oxford, ICTP Trieste, and DESY Hamburg.
