Research Scientist

Michael is a Research Scientist on the Google DeepMind Open-Endedness team, where he was involved in Genie 1 and 2. Previously he was a PhD student advised by Stuart Russell's at the Center for Human-Compatible AI. His current interests focus around creating approaches for safe and controllable open-ended systems which are compatible with the scalable Open-Ended systems driving AI discovery. This involves tackling foundational problems in decision theory, game theory, and the study of problem specifications.
